BLsc (back loop single crochet): Single crochet into the back loop only.
Fsc Arch (foundation single crochet arch): Insert hook into same st, yarnover and pull up a loop, yarnover and pull through 1 loop — 1 chain made. Yarnover and pull through 2 loops — 1 fsc made, * Insert hook under 2 loops of ch at base of previous fsc, yarnover and pull up a loop, yarnover and pull through 1 loop, yarnover and pull through 2 loops; rep from * three times, ch 3, fsc in ch at base of previous fsc, fsc 4.
Written Pattern
Base rnd, each side: Multiple of 6 + 3 + corners.
Begin 5 sts to left of corner st.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st around, placing 5 dc in each corner st, join with slip st to top of ch-3.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, reverse sc in front loop of each dc around, placing 2 reverse sc in front loop of each corner st, join with slip st to first st. (For an illustration of reverse single crochet, see page 214.)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, BLsc in each Rnd-1 dc around, placing 3 BLsc in each corner st, join with slip st to first sc.
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in first sc, *[fsc Arch, skip 5 sc, sc in next sc] to 1 st before corner st, fsc Arch, skip 3 sc, sc in next sc; rep from * around, ending fsc Arch, skip 5 sc, join with slip st to first sc. Fasten off.
Note: Rnd-5 sts are worked into the center sc of each of the skipped 5-sc groups of Rnd 3, keeping Rnd-4 sts to the back.
Rnd 5: standing sc in any corner st of Rnd 3, *fsc Arch, skip 4 sts, sc in next skipped sc (at center of 5 skipped sts), [fsc Arch, skip 5 sts, sc in next skipped sc] to 4 sts before corner st, fsc Arch, skip 4 sts, sc in corner sc; rep from * around, omitting last sc, join with slip st to first sc. Fasten off.
