I grew up with the Goosebumps books. Well, I should clarify, I grew up with the Goosebumps books in bookstores and book fairs and I loved the idea of reading them…but was too terrified to get beyond the covers. I mean, have you seen Slappy the Dummy? I still get nightmares! Once I convinced myself to venture into this ominous and chilling series, I realized how fun it is to read a story and get actual goosebumps.
There’s something about fall and Halloween and the overall mystery in the air that makes these kinds of stories perfect for this time of year. If you’re a fan of tales like this, and things that go bump in the night, read on for a list of our favorite stories.
As I already admitted, I can be a complete scaredy-cat, and so is Ethan from Monster Movie! Despite his fears, his friends convince him to watch the “scariest movie ever made” however the movie itself turns out to actually be a monster. Now Ethan must learn to face his fears and save his friends! Definitely creepy, and definitely might make you think twice about starting a scary movie any time soon, but don’t worry, there’s a few laughs thrown in too.

Humor mixed with the weird, and the undead, makes everything better! I cannot properly express how much the image of Slappy from the Goosebumps series is permanently seared into my memories. I forever will be afraid of ventriloquist dummies, and Daniel, the creepy dummy in the third book of The Magic Misfits series, is no different. He and his famous ventriloquist are up to no good, and it’s up to the Magic Misfits to get to the bottom of it! This one is great for those that enjoy some eerie stories but prefer more humor and magic (with how-tos for some magic tricks!) than being totally terrified.
