Books to Help Pretend Its Summer Instead of Cold, Cold Winter
February is upon us, and that means the winter blues are really starting to kick in, for me at least. As a Florida native for a large portion of my life, the extended months of winter really begin to wear on me. December and January are for the cold and the pretty snow, but by the time we hit February I’m ready for palm trees and lemonade. Since the weather isn’t cooperating, my tbr will have to suffice. Here are some books to help pretend its summer instead of dreary winter! Turn up that heater, gets something yummy and cold to sip on, and lay out in that beach chair in your living room. I’m ready for those summer vibes!
In case you couldn’t tell from this BEAUTIFUL cover, the beach features in this adorable book about self-discovery. When Sunny St. James receives a new heart, she decides to set out upon a “New Life Plan.” First, she wants to do the awesome, amazing things she couldn’t do before. Then she wants to find a new best friend. And then she wants to kiss a boy for the first time! But when she meets her new best friend Quin, Sunny wonders whether she wants to kiss a boy at all. With the reemergence of her mother, Sunny begins her journey of self-discovery in what can only be described as a sweet, warm-in-your-tummy, lay-out-on-the-beach summer read. Let it be known that Sunny St. James deserves the world, and all the beach outings!
Okay, so technically this book doesn’t take place in the summer, but it does give off some summery vibes. Let me explain: Nikki on the Line follows Nikki Doyle, who wins a spot on an elite-level basketball team, bringing her dreams of becoming a star player within reach. But on a team full of faster, stronger girls, Nikki suddenly isn’t the best point guard. In fact, she’s not a point guard at all! While she carves out a space for herself on a new team, Nikki must also contend with taking care of her utterly annoying little brother, best friend troubles, and family tree project that’ll be impossible to complete without revealing the most embarrassing family secret of all time.
This is a totally summertime-sports story, even if it doesn’t take place in summer. The fast paced basketball action makes me want to get out on the court myself, even though I can’t dribble to save my life! Nothing like reading about a workout to warm up, rather than doing one yourself!
A tale of a young witch coming into her powers and trying to save her sea-side town? Yes please! Eva Evergreen is a witch with only a pinch of magic but she’s determined to earn the rank of Novice Witch. When she lands in the tranquil coastal town of Auteri, the people expect a powerful witch, not a semi-magical girl. But Eva has a plan to prove she’s worthy!
Auteri is a town I wish wasn’t fictional. I want this to be my next summer vacay spot! The warm waters of the bay could do me wonders. Just imagine… lying on the docks, yuzu cookie in hand, cloudberry popcorn wafting its delicious aroma down to the water… Take me there, please!
Vampires! Pirates! Vampire Pirates! Need I say more? Twins Connor and Grace never dreamed there was any truth to the Vampirates shanty their father sang to them before he died, but that was before they were ship-wreaked and separated. For Connor, taken aboard a pirate ship, there is the chance to learn to swordfight. But for Grace, in the clutches of the mysterious Vampirates, the danger is great. Can the twins find each other across the vast ocean?
As someone who re-watches the Pirates of the Caribbean movies every summer, I can tell you these books hit the spot! I love me a good pirate tale and a vampire yarn. Put the two together and I’m in heaven!
