The Basic Books Group is dedicated to making the world smarter by publishing works of serious non-fiction by expert authors. The group includes Basic Books, of which Seal Press is a subsidiary imprint, and PublicAffairs, of which Bold Type Books is a subsidiary imprint. Since its founding in 1950, Basic Books has shaped public debate by publishing award-winning books in history, science, politics, biography, and psychology. Seal Press, founded in 1976, publishes enduring works of feminist non-fiction. For over twenty-five years, PublicAffairs has published books at the heart of the national and global conversation — books that inform, advocate, educate, debunk, and speak truth to power. Bold Type Books challenges power through narrative by publishing works of urgent and ambitious journalism. Basic Venture publishes experts at the heart of the national and global conversation in business and economics. Basic Liberty is dedicated to publishing serious works of cultural, social, and political analysis by conservative intellectuals. As a whole, the Basic Books Group is dedicated to the proposition that ideas matter.
Grand Central Publishing, formerly Warner Books, came into existence in 1970 when Warner Communications acquired the Paperback Library, subsequently publishing paperback reprints editions of such bestsellers as Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird and Umberto Eco’s The Name Of The Rose. Today Grand Central Publishing reaches a diverse audience through hardcover, trade paperback, and mass market imprints that cater to every kind of reader.
Hachette Audio provides HBG authors with best-in-class audiobook publishing. We work closely with authors from every Hachette print division and imprint, sharing the author’s words with skilled actors, directors, and producers to create recordings that are both faithful to the text and a truly immersive and distinctive experience. Hachette Audio has been recognized for the highest quality of content and production with numerous GRAMMY, Audie, Listen Up! and Earphone awards.
Little, Brown and Company was founded in 1837 and for close to two centuries has published fiction and nonfiction by many of America’s finest writers. Early lists featured Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, Emily Dickinson‘s poetry, and Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations, all of which are still available today.
Little, Brown Books for Young Readers began publishing books for children in 1926, and we now offer a distinguished and diverse list of 200 frontlist titles annually. In addition to the Little, Brown Books for Young Readers core list of bestselling and award-winning picture books, chapter books, and middle grade and young adult fiction and nonfiction, we publish across four imprints: Christy Ottaviano Books, a boutique imprint that publishes across age categories with a focus on developing authors and artists; JIMMY Patterson Books, founded by the world’s bestselling author, James Patterson; LB Kids novelty and board books; and LB Ink graphic novels and graphic nonfiction.
The Orbit division comprises four imprints: Orbit, Redhook, Orbit Works, and Run For It. Launched in 2007, the Orbit imprint has established itself as one of the market-leading science fiction and fantasy imprints in the US. Redhook, which launched in 2013, focuses on commercial fiction with speculative elements. Orbit Works is a SFF digital publishing imprint, distributing its books globally and welcoming direct submissions from authors. Our newest imprint, Run For It, publishes horror fiction. Orbit division authors include New York Times bestsellers James S.A. Corey, N.K. Jemisin, Ann Leckie, Kim Stanley Robinson, Andrzej Sapkowski, and Brent Weeks.
Running Press publishes titles that inspire, entertain and delight readers with innovative formats and Irresistible packages. RP Adult publishes humor, pop culture, lifestyle, mystical wellness, self-help and inspiration; RP Kids includes board books, picture books, and YA and MG fiction and nonfiction; RP Studio features joyful journals, decks, and puzzles; and RP Minis includes collectibles and mini books. Black Dog & Leventhal publishes content-rich, visually captivating books on subjects like popular culture, social history, science, sports, games and photography, for adults and younger readers. Avalon Travel includes Moon Travel Guides, covering more than 200 destinations around the world, and Rick Steves’ bestselling travel guides to Europe.
Workman Publishing is known for award-winning cookbooks, bestselling parenting/pregnancy guides, the highest quality illustrated nonfiction, plus books on gardening, country living, self-help, travel, and humor, as well as children’s books and educational series, fiction, and the bestselling calendar line in the business. Or, in the words of our guiding principles, books for all of life’s big and small moments, published with passion, joy, hard work, and a fiercely independent spirit. Eight imprints make up the Workman business: Workman, Artisan, Workman Kids, Workman Calendars, Algonquin Books, Storey Publishing, and Timber Press.
