About the Author

Writer and musician Michael Lydon, a pioneering reporter of 60s rock ‘n’ roll, is a founding editor of Rolling Stone who profiled Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, the Grateful Dead, and BB King for the New York Times, Atlantic Monthly, Village Voice, and other periodicals. The Rolling Stones Discover America, now an Amazon Kindle Single and a Hachette audio book, is Lydon’s eyewitness account of being embedded in the Stones’ month-long 1969 tour of America that led to the disastrous concert at Altamont.

A Yale graduate who lives in New York City, Lydon has written many books, among them Rock Folk, Boogie Lightning, and Ray Charles: Man and Music, the definitive biography of the Genius. Lydon also teaches writing at St. John’s University and often performs as a singer-songwriter at Manhattan clubs and coffeehouses with pianist-composer Ellen Mandel and the jazz combo featured on his CD, Love at First Sight.
